Teaching

I teach most of the Greek and Roman history papers we offer at ÌÇÐÄlogo. I also convene the Sexuality and Gender in Greece and Rome course for the Classics Faculty.

Research

I currently have two main areas of research interest in Greek history. The first is the regional history of western Turkey from the Archaic through to the Imperial period. This was the subject of my first book, an exploration of the relationship between the island of Lesbos and the parts of Turkey opposite in antiquity, and my forthcoming second book, a reconstruction of the history of Alexandreia Troas in the Hellenistic period. In these and other publications I have been particularly interested in what the under-exploited evidence of coinage can tell us about regional connections, identity formation, and the impact of supra-regional states on a region’s history. My second area of research interest is the social and cultural history of the Hellenistic polis. Currently, I am working on a project exploring the relationship between polis institutions and Hellenistic literature and another on women’s history in the Hellenistic period.
